Over 1,400 Residents Fall Sick as Sewage Leak Pollutes Bhagirathpura Drinking Water.

A severe public health crisis has struck Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, where contaminated water has claimed 16 lives, including infants and the elderly, and sickened over 1,400 residents. Investigations revealed that sewage from a police outpost toilet leaked into the main drinking water pipeline, contaminating the municipal supply.

Around 200 people remain hospitalized, with 32 in intensive care. In response, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered a sweeping administrative overhaul: Kshitij Singhal replaced Dilip Kumar Yadav as IMC Commissioner, while other senior officials were suspended, and the NHRC demanded a detailed report.

Authorities are supplying safe water via tankers, distributing chlorine tablets, disinfecting household tanks, and urging residents to boil water before use. The tragedy has sparked public outrage and criticism of delayed action, highlighting the urgent need for strict monitoring, preventive measures, and rapid emergency response to restore safety and public trust.
