India Celebrate T20 World Cup Triumph but Player Ratings Spark Debate: Samson Near-Flawless, Abhishek Gets Average Score.

India national cricket team delivered a dominant performance to retain the ICC Men's T20 World Cup title, defeating New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and also reached their fourth consecutive ICC final after the ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025. Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, India enjoyed a largely dominant campaign, suffering only one defeat during the Super 8 stage against South Africa national cricket team.

Batting heroics were led by Sanju Samson, who finished as India’s highest run-scorer and played match-winning knocks including an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies and crucial innings of 89 in both the semifinal against England and the final against New Zealand. Ishan Kishan also played a vital role with his aggressive batting, maintaining a strike rate above 150 and producing key performances such as a 77-run knock against Pakistan and a rapid 54 in the final. Opener Abhishek Sharma had a difficult tournament overall, including three ducks early in the campaign, but redeemed himself with a blazing 52 off 21 balls in the final.

India’s middle order was strengthened by contributions from Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh, while Shivam Dube provided powerful finishing touches in several matches, including an unbeaten 26 off just eight balls in the final. All-rounder Hardik Pandya played a crucial role with both bat and ball, scoring important runs and picking key wickets in knockout matches. In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah once again proved why he is considered one of the best pacers in world cricket, finishing the tournament with 14 wickets at an impressive economy rate. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel also played important roles, with Patel delivering a match-winning spell of 3/27 in the final.

Pacers Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj provided additional support with the ball, while Kuldeep Yadav had limited opportunities due to team combinations but still managed to make an impact in his appearance. Overall, India’s balanced performances in batting, bowling and fielding helped them dominate the tournament and successfully defend their T20 World Cup crown on home soil.
