From Mymensingh to New Delhi: Lynching Horror Triggers Diplomatic Flashpoint.
Tensions between India and Bangladesh escalated sharply on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, following a massive and emotionally charged protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The demonstration was triggered by the brutal mob lynching of a Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, in Mymen singh district of Bangladesh, an incident that has sparked outrage across India and raised serious concerns over the safety of religious minorities in the neighbouring country.
Protesters, many carrying placards and raising slogans condemning the killing, accused Bangladeshi authorities of failing to protect minorities and demanded swift justice for the victim. The situation turned tense as demonstrators gathered near the diplomatic enclave, prompting heavy deployment of Delhi Police and security forces to prevent any breach of the High Commission’s security perimeter.
While Indian authorities maintained that the protest was brought under control and diplomatic norms were upheld, Dhaka reacted strongly, summoning the Indian High Commissioner to formally convey its concerns over the security of its mission.
The incident has added a new layer of strain to already sensitive bilateral ties, with New Delhi reiterating its expectation that Bangladesh ensure the safety and rights of minorities, and Dhaka pushing back against what it describes as internationalisation of an internal law-and-order issue.
