Delhi Bans All Firecrackers in Clubs, Bars & Restaurants Ahead of New Year.

In a strong preventive step ahead of the Christmas and New Year rush, the Delhi government has imposed a blanket ban on the use of all firecrackers—including electric and so-called “cold pyro” devices—inside clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels and other licensed hospitality venues across the capital, following a deadly nightclub fire in Goa that exposed serious safety lapses.

Issued by the Delhi Excise Department, the order applies to all Hotel, Club and Restaurant (HCR) licence holders and makes it clear that no pyrotechnic device, regardless of claims of being low-risk or spark-free, will be permitted in enclosed public spaces. Alongside the ban, venue operators have been directed to strictly comply with fire safety norms, including maintaining a valid Fire No-Objection Certificate from the Delhi Fire Service, ensuring all fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinklers and emergency lighting are fully functional, keeping emergency exits clearly marked and unobstructed, and adhering to approved occupancy limits to prevent overcrowding.

The government has warned of zero tolerance for violations, stating that any breach could invite strict action under the Delhi Excise Act and Rules, including suspension or cancellation of licences and possible legal proceedings, while the Delhi Fire Service has been instructed to conduct immediate and intensive inspections of public assembly venues to enforce compliance.

Authorities have stressed that the move is preventive and aimed solely at protecting lives during high-footfall festivities, underlining a zero-compromise approach to fire safety to ensure year-end celebrations remain safe and tragedy-free.
