Tragedy Strikes as Illegal Fireworks Factory Erupts in Flames, 8 Dead; CM Expresses Grief, Orders High-Level Investigation.

A devastating fire and explosion ripped through an allegedly illegal chemical-firecracker factory in the Khushkhera Industrial Area of Bhiwadi (Khairthal–Tijara), Rajasthan, on Monday morning, leaving at least eight workers burnt alive and several others critically injured. The blaze erupted around 9:30 am when nearly 25 workers were present inside the unit. According to officials, nine workers were trapped in the inferno; eight charred bodies have been recovered so far, while one person is still feared trapped inside the gutted premises.

The injured—Anup Kumar, Junnu, Vivek, and Mannu—were rescued in critical condition, with two suffering nearly 90% burn injuries. All four have been referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for advanced treatment. Fire tenders from Khushkhera and Bhiwadi RIICO fire stations battled the flames for nearly 90 minutes before bringing the situation under control. Fire officials indicated that a large stockpile of cardboard inside the factory accelerated the blaze, while preliminary reports suggest explosions may have been triggered by stored explosives or a gas cylinder. Forensic teams have collected samples from the site as investigations continue.

Authorities confirmed that explosives, firecracker boxes, and gunpowder were recovered from the premises, raising serious concerns about illegal manufacturing activities and safety violations. The factory owner, identified as Rajendra, has not yet appeared before authorities, and police are reportedly unable to establish contact with him. The deceased workers were mostly migrants, with at least five hailing from Motihari, Bihar, and living in rented accommodations near the factory with their families.

Senior officials, including ADM Sumita Mishra and Tijara DSP Shivraj Singh, are overseeing rescue and investigation efforts. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, directing authorities to ensure immediate relief and conduct a thorough probe. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed condolences, calling the incident “tragic and deeply saddening.” Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot shared his grief, praying for peace for the departed souls and recovery for the injured.

The horrific incident has once again exposed glaring lapses in industrial safety enforcement and raised pressing questions about accountability in hazardous manufacturing units operating in the region. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
