AI Revolution in Hospitals: AIIMS Bhopal Introduces Smart Patient Routing, Real-Time Queue Tracking

In a major step toward digital healthcare transformation, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal has become the first hospital in India to introduce an AI-driven patient guidance system designed to manage its massive daily footfall of 10,000 to 12,000 visitors.

The initiative aims to solve the long-standing navigation challenges faced by patients and attendants in large government hospitals, where locating the correct department often leads to confusion, delays, and overcrowding.

The newly launched system features multilingual support in Hindi and English, AI-powered virtual assistant kiosks that function as digital receptionists, real-time queue monitoring to help patients avoid peak rush hours, QR-code-based live corridor navigation on mobile phones, and symptom-based routing that guides patients to the appropriate department through basic triage questions.

By automating inquiries and streamlining crowd flow, the system is expected to reduce pressure on help desks by over 60%, minimize missed appointments, and ensure more efficient department-wise distribution of patients. Hospital authorities say this model could serve as a blueprint for other premier institutions across the country, potentially reshaping how public healthcare facilities manage patient movement and service delivery in the future.
