Deadly Turn on Mountain Road: Bus from Dwarahat to Ramnagar Crashes into Deep Gorge in Almora, Leaving 7 Dead.
A tragic bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, claimed the lives of seven passengers and left at least 12 others injured when a private bus plunged nearly 200 metres into a deep gorge near Salapani in the Vinayak area.
The KMOU-operated bus, carrying around 19 passengers, was travelling from Dwarahat to Ramnagar when it reportedly lost control on a sharp bend between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. Six people died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries during evacuation; the victims included four men and three women.
Rescue teams from the SDRF, police and disaster management rushed to the site, with local villagers playing a crucial role in pulling survivors from the wreckage. Several injured passengers remain critical, with three airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh and others referred to hospitals in Ramnagar and Bhikiyasain.
The driver and conductor survived the crash. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences, while the state government ordered an immediate probe into the cause of the accident and assured the best possible medical treatment for the injured.
