The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in many districts of Gujarat. According to them from July 5, some parts of the country may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Keeping this in mind, 06 Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 06 teams in Gujarat districts to deal with the incessant rains and floods.
RS Joon, Commandant of 06th Battalion of NDRF located at Vadodara (Jarod) said, their teams are deployed in flood affected districts at Navsari, Surat, Valsad, Porbandar, Dwarka, Somnath at the request of Gujarat Disaster Management Department. A total of 06 teams have been pre-deployed to deal with the situation.
He said, each team consists of 45 rescue members who are trained to deal with flood related disasters. As their team will have the dual challenge of dealing with the flood as well as the corona virus infection, they are carrying the essential equipments to avoid this infection such as face-masks, hand gloves sanitizers, PPE kits and others. Additional teams are also put on standby in other NDRF battalions and will be called as per requirement.
NDRF teams consisting of doctors, paramedics, deep dive boats, lifebuoys, life jackets are there to deal with any emergency situation in the districts. The teams are equipped with Communication equipment like Quick deployable antenna (QDA), HF / VHF scuba set and latest sets, satellite phone and cutting equipment. These latest communication devices can also work in the failure of common communication networks in the affected area. Teams are also taking PPE for precautions against COVID-19.
