Beating Retreat and Sunset Ceremony organised at INS Valsura
As part of Navy Day 2019 celebrations, 'Beating Retreat' and 'Sunset
Ceremony' were organized at INS Valsura on 04 Dec in a grand and befitting
manner. 'Beating retreat' marks the centuries old military tradition, when the
troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms, withdrew from battlefield and
returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat. In addition
soul touching performances by the Naval Band, Continuity Drill, Physical
Training and Mashaal Display also held as part of the event.
Continuity Drill depicting the adept handling of weapons, virtue,
discipline, attention to detail and precision mesmerized the audience. Physical
training acrobats over the vaulting horse and vault through the fire showcasing
the physical fitness and courage of the Navy personnel also left the audience
spell bound.
The military tunes played by the Valsura Band including the distant
chimes of tube bells created mesmerizing ambience and enthralled the audience
before the Naval Ensign was lowered. To inspire and encourage the youth of
Gujarat to join the Armed Forces, a band performance by 08 Gujarat Naval
Unit NCC from Jamnagar was also included for the first time as part of the
ceremony.
INS Valsura, Jamnagar is a premier training institute of Indian Navy
which is being commanded by Commodore C Raghuram VSM. Eminent dignitaries from
