On the sixth day of Navratri 2022 (Shashthi Tithi), devotees worship Maa Katyayani - the sixth form of the Goddess Maa Durga.
Maa Katyayani, also known as Mahishasurmardini, according to ancient texts, was created from the combined energies of the gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva to kill the demon Mahishasur.
She is known as Katyayani because she was raised by a sage called Katya. And as per one of the tales, Goddess Sita, Devi Rukmini and the Gopis in Braj Bhumi worshipped Devi Katyayani and prayed to her for a life partner. Hence, even today, unmarried girls worship this form of the Mother Goddess.
