School of Business and Law, Navrachana University organised one day National Webinar on Consumer Protection Act,2019 about new consumer protection act and others. The webinar was in association with Chair on Consumer Law and Practice, National Law School of Indian Univeristy, Bangalore.
The Inaugural function was chaired by the Chief Guest, Justice R. K. Agarwal, President, National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, former Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Highlighting on the theme of the webinar, Justice Agarwal gave a brief introduction about new consumer protection act, by touching up the changes introduced by new act like, product liability, electronic filing, e-commerce, unfair trade practices, establishment of CCPA and introduction of mediation and others.
The Provost of NUV, Prof. (Dr.) Nilay Yajnik, talked about the relevance of new act in the digital era and how the educational institutions will also fall within the ambit of consumer protection act. Dr Sujata Patil, Principal of Law Program, also emphasised on how the consumer law relates to each and every individuals rights and why it is very much essential to create awareness to public at large.
In the technical sessions four eminent speakers delivered talk on different topics related to consumer law. Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Chair Professor, Chair on Consumer on Consumer Law and Practice, NLSIU, Bangalore, delivered a talk on “An Over View of Consumer Protection Act-2019”. Advocate JaideepVerma, Vadodara, emphasised on “Consumer Redressal System”. Dr S.M. Kantikar, Member of National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, New Delhi emphasised on “Liability of Medical Negligence under Consumer Protection Act”. Dr.Pratima Narayan, Advocate, Founder Partner-TechLawLogi Consulting LLP, Bangalore, delivered on “Consumer Protection in E-Commerce: Reforms in India”.
The program got very good response as around 360 participants across the country registered for the event.
