Remember her daughter on this Mother’s Day

As the whole world is celebrating Mother’s day this Sunday,
here is a heartfelt story of a mother performing her duties above all.
Nayanaben Rathod is a staff nurse at GMERS hospital at Gotri leaving her 14
months daughter at in laws house at Chhota Udepur.

The mother wants to play with her doll but the job
responsibilities not allowing her to visit there. As per rotation process her
seven days duty is over at special Covid care hospital, but as per Corona
protocol she is under seven days home quarantine and it is not allowing her to
meet any family members.

She is staying at staff quarters at Gotri hospital She lives
in the staff quarters of Gotri Hospital where her mother took care of Gargi her
daughter. However without her Gaargi was very confused so he inevitably sent
her to Puniyawant to her grandfather’s house. With this she balanced her mother
love and responsibilities towards her duty.L

Nayanabahen says that everyone is assigned their work inside
the Covid hospital as per rotation shift. The duty is for seven days and during
that time arrangements have been made to stay in a hostel on the hospital
premises to keep the family free from getting any infection.

She says that it’s a government job and they have to do
whatever is assigned as part of it. For the first time in 14 months, she is
away from her daughter Gargi, but have no complaints.

Secondly, the job of a nurse is not only to treat patients
but also to provide health education to them, their families and the society as
well. Her first responsibility is to teach people about social distancing and
other protocols to save themselves from getting any infection. She is on duty
at NICU at the Covid hospital.

She never thought negative or about staying away from Corona
positive patient in the hospital. She comes to the hospital take the assignment
from the sister incharge, do handwash, wear PPE, wear two or three pairs of gloves
and work with caution.

Whether Corona positive or suspicious, the person is a
patient and it is her duty to treat their BP, sugar, measure temperature and to
treat her according to the doctor’s advice. To teach them, How to be cautious,
Providing health education is one of the duties while working inside the Corona
Ward.

Earlier she has also done a private job where the nurse has
to look after one or two patients in the hospital charging hefty money from
them. But in goverment there are lot more patients to be taken care of in such
epidemics. We try to give justice to everyone but many times the relatives of
the patient misbehave without understanding the situation and that hurts them
alot. When people appreciates it gives us the encouragement and as people’s
understanding grows, so does their gentleness in behavior.

Nayana’s husband also works in a government hospital at
Raisingpura near Puniawant. Thus, leaving Gargi alone with her mother to
perform the two-week duty at the Covid hospital was a daunting task, but it
seems to have made the celebration of Mother’s Day meaningful by controlling
the affection of the mother. Perhaps due to the value of affection among women
this job is more suitable for them. Perhaps it can be said that Lady with the Lamp
first nurse, Florence Nightingale is no longer alive but she is still alive in
every nurse. Perhaps every day of the nurse’s life is Mother’s Day.
