Major fire at Assam’s Baghjan Oil Well

The Baghjan Oil Well located near the Dibru Saikhowa National Park in Assam has been blowing out since 27 May. What started as an oil spill and gas leak due to the failure of pressure control systems, has now turned into a massive fire.

According to the locals, the gases are still flowing uncontrollably and the flames are visible from more than 2 km away.

Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi on Tuesday, 9 June, tweeted a picture of the blowout and said.

Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted saying, he spoke to Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the phone regarding the incident of fire.
