The Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) had granted this certification in 2020, designating a 600-meter stretch of Rushikonda Beach as a Blue Flag site.
However, in recent months, several concerns were raised regarding the beach’s maintenance.
Issues such as stray dogs entering the beach, non-functional CCTV cameras, accumulated waste, deteriorating public toilets and changing rooms, and damaged walkways were reported.
On February 13, some individuals filed a complaint with the FEE, providing photographic evidence of these shortcomings.
Taking these concerns seriously, the FEE decided to revoke the Blue Flag certification for Rushikonda Beach. Following this decision, tourism department officials removed the Blue Flag from the beach yesterday.
Until last year, a designated agency was responsible for maintaining the beach. However, after its management contract ended, the agency withdrew from its operations.
