While the cargo terminal remains on track for completion by April-end, passenger terminal construction has fallen behind schedule.

The airport has already notified airlines about the delay and is exploring the possibility of launching cargo operations first.

A spokesperson confirmed submission of the aerodrome license application and draft aeronautical information publication for January publication, adding that they are working through necessary regulatory steps with aviation and security authorities.

No specific date for passenger operations has been announced, but BusinessLine sources indicate the launch may be delayed until July-August or possibly later. Initial plans called for commercial operations to begin on April 17, 2025.

According to reports, a new inauguration date will be finalized during a meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on March 10.

Zurich Airport is developing NIA in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government.

The first phase includes a single runway with capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually.

The airport was originally scheduled to open in December 2024, but that deadline was pushed to April 2025 due to construction material delivery delays.
