At least 15 people were killed and 25 others sustained injuries after a private bus fell off from a bridge in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at Dongargaon bridge near Dasanga area in the district.
According to Home Minister Narottam Mishra, the bus fell to a dry riverbed after hitting the railings of the bridge.
A magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the bus accident and announced ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.
The incident took place around 8.40 am. The bus was carrying around 50 passengers when it was met with the accident.
Police had rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. Those injured were admitted to the district hospital in Khargone.
Locals in the area rushed to the spot after the accident and they pulled the people trapped inside the bus from the windows and backside of the vehicle.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condoled the deaths.
The MP government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those deceased, Rs 50,000 each to those severely injured and 25,000 to those who suffered minor injuries. in the accident.
PM has announced Financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next kin of those deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
