India issues travel advisory for citizens in Bangladesh amid violent protests

In light of ongoing massive protests and violent clashes over the quota system for government jobs in Bangladesh, India has issued an advisory for Indian community members and students residing in the country.

The advisory urges them to avoid travel and minimise movement due to the unrest that has resulted in at least six deaths.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered an investigation into the violent clashes that have shaken the nation.

The situation escalated after student protesters demanding reforms in the government job quota system announced a complete nationwide shutdown for Thursday.

This decision came in response to deadly clashes earlier in the week that resulted in the deaths of at least six people and left hundreds injured.

Asif Mahmud, a key coordinator of the movement, stated that all establishments, except hospitals and emergency services, will remain closed, with only ambulance services permitted to operate.
