According to the draft notification, motor vehicles registered in countries other than India shall not be permitted to transport local passengers and goods within India.

The Government has issued a draft notification on Inter-County Non-Transport (personal) Vehicle rules, 2022. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the rules are proposed to formalize the movement of personal vehicles registered in other countries when entering or plying in the territory of India.

According to the draft notification, motor vehicles registered in countries other than India shall not be permitted to transport local passengers and goods within India.

The Ministry said, the vehicles can be operated under Inter Country Non Transport personal vehicle rules with a valid registration certificate, valid driving license or international driving permit, a valid insurance policy, and a valid pollution control certificate.

It further said, the transport documents in languages other than English should have an authorized English translation, duly authenticated by the issuing authority, and should be carried along with the originals.

Motor vehicles registered in any country other than India requires to comply with rules and regulations made under Section 118 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 of India.
