A tragic glacier burst near Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district has triggered a massive avalanche, trapping 57 workers engaged in a construction project in Mana village.
The incident, which took place on the morning of February 27, 2025, buried several workers under the snow.
While 15 workers have been rescued so far, rescue teams continue their efforts to locate the remaining 42 workers employed under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Even though Badrinath Dham is not open this time of year, visiting Chamoli, and Mana village in particular, is quite risky this time of year.
The glacier burst, which caused landslides and heavy snowfall in the region, has significantly impacted access routes, making travel to the area dangerous.
Currently, rescue operations are being conducted by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the Indian Army. However, adverse weather conditions are slowing progress.
Given the severity of the avalanche and ongoing rescue operations, all non-essential travel to Badrinath and nearby areas should be avoided. Landslides and snow accumulation have made roads treacherous, increasing the risk of accidents.
Regularly check updates from Uttarakhand’s disaster management authorities and local administration.
Official sources such as the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and BRO are providing real-time updates on road conditions and safety measures.
