This decision comes after a previous delay in fare revision, which was put on hold following directives from the Centre.

A Fare Fixation Committee, chaired by a former High Court judge, was formed as per the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002.

The committee was tasked with recommending a revised fare structure and submitted its report on December 16, 2024.

According to the Act, the recommendations made by this committee are binding on the Metro Railway Administration.

The BMRCL Board has approved the new fare structure, which will take effect on February 9, 2025.
