According to Airport Director VK Seth, the passengers were tested upon arrival at Amritsar airport, as per practise.

The charter flight YU-661, which landed at the Amritsar airport at roughly 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, had a total of 179 passengers, according to officials.

Because Italy is one of the "at risk" countries, all eligible passengers — 160 in this case — were tested for COVID-19, with 125 of them testing positive, according to the Union Health Ministry.

They added that 19 of the 179 passengers were youngsters or infants, thus they were excused from RT-PCR testing upon arrival. They stated that the charter flight between Milan, Italy, and Amritsar, Punjab, was operated by the Portuguese business EuroAtlantic Airways.

Earlier, the news agency ANI claimed that passengers who tested positive were onboard an Air India flight, which the national carrier rejected in a tweet.
