White Peas Sundal is a classic South Indian recipe that is prepared for the festival of Navratri. In South India, this dish is also called Pattani Sundal, because white peas are also called Pattani.
It is made using white peas, carrot, coconut, raw mango, some common spices and a classic South Indian tadka of curry leaves, mustard seeds, dry red chilli and asafoetida.
You can make this snack easily with cooked white peas in no time. Make sure you soak the white peas overnight and pressure cook them beforehand to cut the preparation time short.

INGREDIENTS OF WHITE PEAS SUNDAL
2 Servings
1 cup white peas
1 grated carrot
2 tablespoon grated coconut
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 dry red chili
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
2 stalks curry leaves
salt as required
1/4 cup raw mango
1 tablespoon ghee
HOW TO MAKE WHITE PEAS SUNDAL
Step 1 / 3 Cook The White Peas
Wash the white peas properly, soak them in water overnight. The next day, pressure cook them for 3 whistles.
Drain all the water and collect the cooked white peas in a bowl.
Step 2 / 3 Mix The Other Ingredients
Heat ghee in a kadhai. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chilli. Let them splutter for a minute.
Now add grated carrot, raw mango pieces, grated coconut and all the spices like turmeric, red chilli powder and salt.
Mix well and saute the ingredients for 2 minutes. Now add cooked peas and mix everything well. Switch off the flame after adding peas.
