INGREDIENTS OF STEAMED BAO BUNS

4 Servings

250 gm all purpose flour

1/2 tablespoon caster sugar

1/2 teaspoon dry yeast

25 ml lukewarm milk

1 tablespoon sunflower oil

1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

HOW TO MAKE STEAMED BAO BUNS

Step 1 / 7 Mix The Dry Ingredients

Take a bowl, add flour, caster sugar and salt to it. Mix the dry ingredients well.

Step 2 / 7 Prepare The Dough

Dissolve the yeast in 1 tbsp warm water. Now add it to the flour along with the milk, sunflower oil, rice vinegar and water. Knead to form a soft dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for an hour.

Step 3 / 7 Add Baking Powder

After an hour, add baking powder and knead it again for a few minutes.

Step 4 / 7 Make Small Balls And Roll Them Out

Now divide the dough into equal parts and make small balls. Use a rolling pin to flatten them out. Make small ovals with a medium thickness.

Step 5 / 7 Leave Them To Rest

Now grease the sides of the ovals and fold them gently into halves. Let them rest in a warm place for an hour. This will make the buns double in size.

Step 6 / 7 Steam The Buns

Now put the buns in a steamer and steam them for 8-10 minutes.

Step 7 / 7 Stuff And Serve

Your buns are ready to be stuffed. Stuff them with a filling of your choice or if you wish to go the traditional way, stuff them with barbeque pork and pickled carrots. Enjoy the classic Chinese dish.
