Oats is easy to cook as it does not take much time or prep work. It is usually consumed in the form of a porridge which involves boiling of milk or water and adding oats to it along with sugar or salt. But this recipe gets a little drab and boring after a while. So, for variety, oats are incorporated into muffins, soups and milkshakes

The recipe that we bring to you today is the Oats Tikki. It is a play on the classic and much popular street food called Aloo Tikki. It is made with paneer and grated carrots to give the oats an extra boost of nutrition and flavor.

Ingredients for the Chutney

  • Chopped mint leaves- ½ cups
  • Chopped coriander-1/4 cups
  • Chopped onions- 2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice- ½ tbsp
  • Sugar- a pinch
  • Green chillies- 2 nos
  • Salt to taste

For the Oats Tikki

  • Quick cooking oats- 1 cup
  • Paneer- ¼ cup
  • Grated carrot- ¼ cup
  • Cooked and mashed potatoes- ½ cup
  • Coriander leaves chopped- 2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice- 1 tsp
  • Ginger and green chilli paste- 1 ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder- 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  • Aamchoor Powder- 1 tsp
  • Milk- 1 tbsp
  • Quick rolled oats ( to crumb the tikkis)- 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method for Green Chutney

  • Take the chutney jar of your mixer-grinder.
  • Add the entire ingredient list mentioned for the green chutney to the jar.
  • Grind the ingredients to a fine paste.
  • You may add a little water to adjust the consistency to your liking.
  • Remove the prepared chutney into a bowl.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.

For the Oats Tikki

  • Take a large mixing bowl and add the oats to it.
  • To the oats, now add the grated panneer and the grated carrots.
  • Mix it well with your hands.
  • Add the potatoes to the mixture and mix it all very well.
  • You may add a little water to wet the mixture.
  • Continue to mix the mixture with your hands till it is well combined. Now, use your greased hands to pinch some mixture and make a ball.
  • Flatten this ball to make tikkis or pattice.
  • Repeat the process with the rest of the mixture.
  • Now take a flat tawa and drizzle it with oil.
  • Take one of the tikkis and dip it into the milk.
  • Now, roll the tikki in the oats until well covered.
  • Place the tikkis on the tawa one by one.
  • Roast the tikkis on the both sides by flipping them gently.

When the tikkis turn a light golden brown, remove them from the tawa Serve the oats tikkis warm with chilled green chutney.
