Ingredients of Mushroom Chestnut Bao Buns

2 Servings

500 gm flour

1/4 cup water

7 gm dry yeast

15 gm baking powder

200 ml boiling water

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar

40 gm caster sugar

50 ml almond milk

2 tablespoon canola oil/ rapeseed oil

For Filling

1 cup mushroom

1 onion

2 tablespoon scallions

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 cup Thai chestnut

5 cloves garlic

How to make Mushroom Chestnut Bao Buns

Step 1 Activate the yeast

To prepare this recipe, first, activate the yeast by mixing the dry yeast in warm water and granulated sugar. Keep it aside for 5-7 minutes.

Step 2 Knead a soft dough and cover for 30 minutes

Take a dough kneading bowl and mix all the ingredients together. Knead a pliable dough and cover it with a damp cloth. Keep aside for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3 Prepare the mushroom chestnut filling

To make the filling, heat oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot enough, add finely chopped onion and garlic in it. Saute until the raw smell of garlic goes away and then add mushrooms in the pan. Stir well and cook the mushrooms until tender. Afterwards, add chopped chestnut along with the remaining ingredients of filling and cook for 2-3 minutes. The filling for bao is ready.

Step 4 Make the bao and keep aside for 30 minutes

Now, roll out the dough around 5 mm thick use a cutter to cut 8-9 cm circle. Then, fill the filling and twist a bit like a money bag and again try rolling like a ball for a second. Keep the balls aside for 30 minutes.

Step 5 Steam the prepared bao for 10-12 minutes

Take a steamer and lightly grease with some oil. Add the prepared bao in the steamer and steam for 10-12 minutes.

Step 6 Fry the bao for a few seconds and serve with soya sauce and sesame seeds

When done put 1 teaspoon of oil in a wok and place the stuffed bao in the wok. Fry till the bao is a little brown in colour. Serve with light soya sauce with sesame seeds and any spicy sauce if you need.
