Honey Chilli Idli is a fusion recipe that is made using idli combined with a classic Chinese-style sauce.
Be it snacks or dinner, you can serve this dish for any meal. Veggies like garlic, spring onions, onions and capsicum are added to the dish.
If you or your kids don't like having plain idlis, then you can transform them into this scrumptious recipe.
A number of sauces like soy sauce and tomato sauce are added to give the dish an extra zing. You can also add toasted sesame seeds to add extra flavours to the recipe.
If you like your snacks spicier, you can always add schezwan sauce or chilli chutney to it.
2 Servings-
4 idli
1 tablespoon corn flour
2 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
14 cup refined flour
1 medium onion
2 tablespoon chopped spring onions
1 medium capsicum (green pepper)
2 dry red chili
6 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
1/2 teaspoon powdered black pepper
salt as required
1 cup vegetable oil
Step 1 / 6 Chop The Idlis
Chop the idlis into small cubes. Cut one idli into 4-6 pieces.
Step 2 / 6 Make A Slurry
Add refined flour to a bowl. Add some salt and water. Mix well to prepare a slurry. It should neither be too thin nor too thick.
Step 3 / 6 Fry The Idlis
Heat oil in a kadhai for frying. Coat the idli pieces in the slurry and drop them in hot oil. Fry the piece until golden brown in colour and crisp in texture.
Step 4 / 6 Make The Honey Chilli Mixture
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a wok. Add minced garlic and dry red chillies. Fry for a minute. Now add chopped onions along with sliced capsicum. Fry on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Now add soya sauce, ketchup and again fry for a minute. Mix corn flour in 1/4 cup water and add this slurry to the wok. Thick will thicken the sauce.
Step 5 / 6 Add The Fried Idlis
Add honey to the wok along with salt and black pepper powder. Finally, add the fried idlis and mix well. Fry on high heat for 2 minutes more.
Step 6 / 6 Ready To Be Served
Once cooked, Honey Chilli Idlis are ready to be served. Garnish with spring onions and serve.
