The first phase of this initiative features a collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha, one of India’s most beloved storytellers, to create an engaging, illustrated booklet that simplifies complex medical information.

This resource is designed to assist patients and their families better understand the risks, symptoms, and importance of early diagnosis for lung cancer.

Available in both print and digital formats, the booklet can be accessed at select healthcare provider (HCP) clinics or online via the J&J India website.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), lung cancer cases in India are projected to rise dramatically, with a seven-fold increase anticipated by a 2025.

In 2022 alone, approximately 81,000 cases of lung cancer were reported, along with 75,000 deaths, making it one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in the country.

India Detects to Defeat, primarily focuses on raising awareness about Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), which accounts for 85% of all lung cancer cases globally as per the Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia 2024 .

This type of cancer is often associated with genetic mutations, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene, which can drive uncontrolled cell growth and division.

Awareness is the first step toward early detection, timely intervention, and improved outcomes in lung cancer care.

Through this initiative, Johnson & Johnson aims to bridge the awareness gap by presenting critical information in an accessible and easy-to-understand format.
