The worrying surge in COVID cases in India continued for the sixth straight day. Data from the Union health ministry released on Monday morning said 33,750 new COVID cases had been reported from all states and Union territories the previous day.

Monday's cases take India's total COVID numbers to 3,49,22,882.

Active COVID cases in the country now stand at 1,45,582. The test positivity rate has increased to 3.84 per cent. A total of 123 deaths were also reported on Monday morning, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,81,893.

The number of cases of Omicron infections has reached 1,700, with Maharashtra accounting for the most cases (510).

The states that reported the most number of COVID cases on Sunday were Maharashtra (11,877), West Bengal (6,153), Delhi (3,194), Kerala (2,802) and Tamil Nadu (1,594).
