Chennai to host health tourism conclave

The Tamil Nadu government will hold a health tourism conclave in Chennai on April 29 and 30 to streamline the sector and make it more friendly for patients arriving from abroad.

It will also hold a culture and handicraft fest called Chennai Thiruvizha at Island Grounds to attract domestic tourists. The Chennai Thiruvizha will start on April 28.

Tourism minister K Ramachandran told reporters that the health conclave being organised in association with FICCI will be held at ITC Grand Chola.

It will bring together hospitals, doctors, insurance companies and travellers and will have delegates from around 20 countries including the Maldives, Bangladesh, Oman, Saudi Arabia and a few other countries from where patients usually arrive for treatment.

It will be the first time a state government is organising such a conclave that will facilitate a B2B platform for hospitals and other stakeholders involved in health tourism, he added.
