As Omicron cases are on the rise across the country, the Delhi government has decided to conduct genome tests of all samples testing positive for Covid-19, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday. To date, only samples of international travellers were being sent for genome sequencing.
The CM also requested the Centre to allow the Delhi government to start giving booster shots to the fully vaccinated people.
Delhi on Monday reported six more Omicron cases, taking its tally to 28. The government has, as such, intensified random testing at Metro stations, markets, tourist places, and other areas which see a high footfall as the national capital recorded 107 new Covid-19 cases and one related death in the last 24 hours.
Construction and demolition activities will be permitted in the National Capital Region with immediate effect, the Commission for Air Quality Management said in an order issued on Monday. Trucks will also be allowed to enter Delhi. Entry of trucks carrying non-essentials, except CNG and electric ones, had been banned till today.
