On Wednesday, India's Omicron cases totaled 781, with the national capital Delhi leading the way with 238 instances, including 57 recoveries. With 167 Pmicron cases and 72 recoveries, Maharashtra is in second place. According to health ministry data, Omicron instances are in double digits in Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and West Bengal. The rapid spread of the current version of SARS-CoV-2 also had an influence on India's total number of cases, which increased by 44% from Tuesday to 9,195. The number of new cases reported in the last 24 hours outnumbered the 7,347 persons who were released or recovered.

For weeks, India's entire Covid tally has remained around 7,000 to 8,000. The overall Covid tally did not change significantly after the first Omicron cases were recorded in India in the first week of December. With daily tally increases in Delhi and Mumbai, the situation has gotten worse in the last 24 hours.
