Public lecture by Padma Bhushan Lord Bhikhu Parekh at NUV

To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi, Navrachana University organized a public lecture by Padma Bhushan Lord
Bhikhu Parekh, on ’Mahatma Gandhi’s Legacy: A Critical Assessment’, under the
aegis of NUV Samvaad Navrachana University Celebrity Lecture Series. 

NUV Samvaad is a celebrity public lecture series hosted
every Year by Navrachana University, Vadodara. NUV Samvaad provides the
participants with a rare platform to engage in stimulating talk and discussions
with eminent personalities from various walks of life. The objective is to
enrich the community with ingenious ideas and practices. 

The lecture was attended by Navrachana University
Chairperson Tejal Amin, Provost Dr. Nilay Yajnik along with Faculty members,
students, invitees and public. NUV Provost Dr. Nilay Yajnik informed, ”We are
delighted to have Lord Bhikhu Parekh at our campus. His deep understanding
about Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy surely enlighten the audience.” 

Padma Bhushan Lord Bhikhu Parekh is a political theorist
and Labor Member of the House of Lords, UK. He was elected a Fellow of the
Royal Society of Arts in 1988 and a Fellow of the Academy of Learned Societies
in the Social Sciences in 1999. He served as President, Academy of Social
Sciences, UK, from 2003 to 2008. 

Lord Parekh studied at the University of Bombay, and
later at the London School of Economics (LSE), where he earned his Ph.D. in
1966. He taught at the LSE and at the University of Glasgow before accepting a
position at the University of Hull. He also served as the Vice Chancellor of
the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda between 1981 and 1984. 

Lor’d Parekh has been conferred with several
honorary degrees Doctorate by the University of Essex, Doctor of Social
Sciences from Nottingham Trent University and Dotorate of Philosophy from Edge
Hill University. He is the author of many books including Gandhi’s Political
Philosophy: A Critical Examination. He is the Editor of Colour, Culture and
Consciousness: Immigrant Intellectuals In Britain.
