Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday urged citizens to not queue up outside vaccination centres on Saturday as the national capital has not received fresh stock of the COVID-19 vaccine yet. He assured that the vaccine supply will be replenished in a day or two.

The inoculation process for citizens above 18 years of age will open up on Saturday.

“I request you to not queue up at the vaccination centres tomorrow. We have not received the vaccines yet. We are hopeful that vaccines will reach soon, and we will make proper announcements then,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal further stated that 67 lakh vaccines have been ordered from both the Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech. He said the state government is hopeful of vaccinating all adults in Delhi against COVID-19 within the next three months.

“Delhi government is ready to make payments for the vaccines. People of Delhi will be given free vaccines. We are making all efforts to see that people of Delhi are vaccinated in the next three months,” the CM added.

Many states, including Maharashtra, Punjab and Gujarat, have raised concerns over insufficient stock of vaccines and have stated that they begin the vaccination process for 18-45 age category once there is enough vaccines.

More than 24.5 million people have registered themselves on the Co-WIN platform ahead of the Phase-3 COVID-19 inoculation drive for those above 18 years, starting from May 1, as per the health ministry.
