Karuna Abhiyan 2021, treatment facility for birds and animals injured by kite strings starts from today

Collaboration of voluntary organizations, 8 medical students studying Veterinary Medicine will also serve

The Karuna Abhiyaan is run in Gujarat for the purpose of providing proper treatment to the birds and mute animals, especially those who are injured by the kite strings. The campaign for proper treatment and care of injured animals is run in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Forests with the selfless support of organizations working in the field of animal welfare.

Informing that the campaign of injured animal and birds treatment centers has been started from Sunday under Karuna Abhiyan 2021, the Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry of District Panchayat Dr. Prakash Darji said, this operation was carried out in collaboration with the Forest Department. It will continue daily from 7 am to 6 pm till January 20 including next Sunday and the injured animals will be treated free of cost by the teams.

In Vadodara city forest Department will treat the injured animals and perform necessary surgery operations at Bhutdi Zampa Veterinary Hospital, Veterinary Polyclinic at the end of Shastri Overbridge and Nursery of Sayajibaug . Teams of 5 doctors each will serve in these three places. Apart from this, the facility of treatment of birds will also be available at the taluka centers of the district, veterinary centers and primary veterinary hospitals.

Dr. Darji informed that the Animal Husbandry Department has involved 17 veterinary medical officers in this campaign. He said that 8 student doctors who are getting veterinary education this year are also serving under the campaign.

In the nursery of the social forestry department of Sayajibaug, there is a shelter center along with a medical center where daily necessary treatment, dressing and healing of the injured birds will be done and later will be released in the sky. There are a total of 14 veterinary hospitals in the district and injured animals will be treated at all places under this campaign.

Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. Darji has made a special request to show limited restraint during the festival so that the health of the cows is not compromised.

The animal does not have a limit of eating which means that excessive intake of ghughari leads to acidic condition and the stomach of the animal becomes swollen. It becomes difficult to breathe and the animal dies. That is why he has appealed to feed a little bit for two to three days instead of feeding more pigeons in one day.

Similarly, he has specially requested the kite lovers to avoid flying kites before 9 am and after 5 pm to ensure that the birds moving out from nest in the early morning and returning in evening not get injured by the kite and the string.
