The cycle expedition ‘Karmbhoomi to Janambhoomi’ undertaken by NCC Directorate Gujarat to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was flagged in at Kirti Mandir, Porbandar (Janmbhoomi) by Major General Roy Joseph ADG, NCC Directorate Gujarat, Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The cycle expedition was flagged off on 19 Sep 2019 from National Salt Satyagraha Memorial, Dandi (Karmbhoomi).
The expedition team consisting of Colonel Damodaran P, Commanding Officer 9 Gujarat Battalion NCC, Ahmedabad, Lieutenant Urvashi Sharma and five Girl cadets and six Boy cadets travelled via Surat, Bharuch, Vadodra, Nadiad, Ahmedabad, Viramgam, Surendranagar, Chotila, Rajkot and Dhoraji covering a distance of approx 800 Kms.
The aim of the expedition was to rekindle and refresh the Gandhian Philosophy of Truth, Ahimsa, Brahmacharya, Control of Palate, Non Stealing, Non Possession, Fearlessness, Removal of Untouchability, Bread Labour, Equality of Religion and Swadeshi among the youth and denizens of the state.
The expedition was also aimed at spreading the awareness amongst the youth about the importance of being fit coupled with non use of junk food. Cadets, through this vow of Gandhiji also highlighted and supported the Fit India campaign.
