In the unique social initiative of Mission Food Distribution, West Zone of IRCTC has prepared & distributed 2,05, 617 food packets of Dal Khichdi with pickle & other meals during last 16 days from 29th March, 2020 to 13th April, 2020 for the needy and destitute persons through its 5 base kitchens at Mumbai Central & Ahmedabad of WR, Bhusawal & Pune of Central Rly & Itarsi of West Central Rly. Out of these a big share i.e. 1.15 lakh food packets have been distributed over WR in nearby areas at Mumbai Central & Ahmedabad Rly stations.

According to a press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar, with the problems related to Non availability of resources among the poor and needy persons due to national lockdown, IRCTC continued its mission food distribution also on 14th April, 2020 through Western Railway and NGOs like Salaam Bombay , Mccalan, Giants Group, Future Foundation, Ghatkopar Welfare Trust, Angels & various other NGOs across Mumbai and Ahmedabad in co-ordination with the Commercial and RPF Department of Western Railway.

These teams collected 5200 meals of special poha from Mumbai Central base kitchen and 2500 meals from Ahmedabad base kitchen and distributed these food packets in various nearby areas at Mumbai Central & Ahmedabad stations. In addition to this, Western Railway too is ensuring its best possible efforts to arrange smooth distribution of food packets & meals from other sources to needy persons in the nearby areas of several stations in all the 6 divisions of WR.

So far, Mumbai Division has supplied 95,015 meals & Ahmedabad division has supplied 81,100 food packets to poor and needy persons during corona lockdown period. On 14th April, 2020, under the guidance of Dr. Prerna Goswami – President of Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation’s Bhavnagar unit, 25 ration kits were distributed to outhouse maids of Bhavnagar colony, containing 10 kg Atta, 3 Kg Rice, 2 kg Tuver dal, 1 ltr Oil, 250 gm Tea, 1 kg Sugar, 4 nos soap and 1 Nirma washing bar. More over on behalf of Western Railway Women Welfare Organisation’s Bhavnagar unit , school teachers are preparing re-usable cloth masks. They handed over such 500 masks to hospital staff for further distribution.

In addition to this, Ahmedabad Division distributed 2500 food packets. Vadodara division supplied 1500 food packets in Vadodara city. Similarly, ration kits containing 5kg atta, 1kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1ltr oil, 1kg sugar, 100gm tea and 1 washable face mask were distributed to 11 staff of MEMU shed contactor at Vadodara by Rly officials. 115 food packets were distributed by Bhavnagar division. In addition to this, Masks and hand gloves were distributed by Shri Jaydeep Waghela at Bhavnagar. 245 food packets were distributed by NGOs including Gurunanak Trust, Jalaram Seva Trust and Reliance Industries Ltd at Rajkot. 455 food packets were distributed by Ratlam Division.
