International Webinar on “Mathematics in Industry: Challenges and Frontiers” by MSU Baroda

The  Office of International Affairs, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science & Department of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Technology and Engineering hosted an International Webinar on “Mathematics in Industry: Challenges and Frontiers”  on June 3, 2020.

The webinar Co-ordinaters were (Dr.) Dhanesh Patel, Director, Office of International Affairs, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and Prof. (Dr.) Colin Please, University of Oxford, UK. The webinar was held on the ‘Google Meets’ platform and was also streamed live on ‘Youtube’. The primary objective of the webinar was the need to develop long term Academia-Industry partnership to tackle industrial problems which requires mathematical/stasticial inputs.

The unique feature of this International Webinar was to enable people understand the beauty of Mathematical Technology in order to tackle various issues faced in the Industry. The speakers shared their experiences from their own country in terms of Mathematics and Industry.

The Webinar received an overwhelming response with over 1300 individuals from over 32 countries participating. The participants included distinguished academicians, industry leaders and students. The webinar was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Parimal Vyas, Hon. Vice Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University.

Five distinguished academicians, Prof. (Dr.) Graeme Wake, Massey University, Auckland; Prof. (Dr.) Colin Please, University of Oxford, UK; Prof. (Dr.) Wil Schilders, TU Eindhoven, Netherlands; Prof. (Dr.) Poul G. Hjorth, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark; and Dr. Ashleigh Hutchinson, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, were invited speakers and addressed the participants on the challenges and prospects of mathematics in industry. The academic deliberations held during the webinar were fruitful and it was resolved to hold more such webinars in the future.
