More than 15 experts and scholars from across the world along with more than 40 from across India will be part of Navrachana University’s the first ever International Conference organized by the newly set up Navrachana University Centre for Environment Research and Innovation (NUCERI). The conference kick start on February 24 and will continue till February 26 at the University campus in Bhayli area of Vadodara.

The three day International Conference will deliberate on various aspects on the basic theme of Ecohealth and Environmental Sustainability. This conference is organized by Navrachana University in association with University of Calgary, Canada under the aegis of Navrachana University Centre for Environment Research and Innovation (NUCERI).

Giving information about the conference, Professor A. V. Ramachandran, Mentor, School of Sciences said, “The conference will play a vital role in the present context as all the countries are focusing on climate change and even India is playing its role for the same. We have got confirmations from various countries. The important foreign speakers include Prof. Hamid Habibi from Canada, Prof. Moustapha Hasnoui from Morocco, Prof. Giulia Guerrero and Dr. Gerardino D'Errico University of Naples, Italy, and Prof. Matt Vijayan, from Canada, Prof. Vikas Kumar from University of Idaho, USA, Prof. Oliana Carnevali, Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy and Dr. Olfa Hentati, University of Sfax, Tunisia.”

Navrachana University Provost Dr. Nilay Yajnik informed, “This international Conference will look forward to recent advances in cleaner technologies to reduce pollution and health hazard related issues. The sessions will deliberate on alternative energy resources and conservation of marine and wildlife diversity of plants and animals. The issues will find out solutions for restoring natural ecosystems. Selected papers from this conference shall be published as Proceeding in an International Journal of Water and Environmental Sciences.”

The event is supported by Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (Govt. of Gujarat), Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of Gujarat), Gujarat State Biotechnological Mission (GSBTM), Science and Engineering Research Board- Department of Science and Technology (SERB-DST), Elsevier, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Union Bank of India.

NUCERI is an interdisciplinary centre set up by the University wherein different disciplines come together to address issues of environment through research and innovation. This conference is inaugurated by Padma Shri Dr. M. H. Mehta at 06:00 PM in Navrachana University auditorium on 23rd February 2020. Prof. Matt Vijayan, from Dept. of Biological sciences, University of Calgary will be the Guest of Honour along with Dr. Prasoon Gargava, Western Zone Director for Central Pollution Control Board who shall also be the guest of honour for the inaugural.

The conference will have 11 technical sessions and a dedicated Panel Discussion on ‘Most Challenging environmental concern from Indian perspective: Identification, Management, Mitigation and Policies’. Panelists include some eminent and experienced experts viz. Dr. Kirit Shelat; IAS who has worked closely with the government on aspects of Environment, Prof. Pamposh Bhatt who is a Climate Change Expert representing South Asia and is the founder of Jwala Trust, Dr. Prasoon Gargava Western Zone Director, CPCB, Prof Shobhalata Udapudi, Director GNLU Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development.

Recommendations from this panel discussion and Conference shall be submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The young scientists and researchers will present their papers in oral and poster sessions on the 24th and 25th February.”
