Gyaneshwari Yadav Wins Silver and Bronze for India at Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026
India’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships received a major boost as Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav secured two prestigious medals on Day 3 of the tournament held at Mahatma Mandir & Exhibition Centre.
The championship, which began on 11 May 2026 in Gandhinagar, has attracted top athletes from 28 Asian nations and 2 Commonwealth countries. The competition is also an important qualifying event for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Competing in the Women’s 53 kg category, Gyaneshwari Yadav showcased exceptional strength and determination. She lifted 88 kg in the Snatch section to claim the Silver Medal. In the overall standings, she secured the Bronze Medal with a combined total lift of 194 kg.
The Gold Medal in the category was won by Jinlan Zhao of China with a total lift of 216 kg. Meanwhile, Hoai Huong Nguyen from Vietnam secured Silver in the total category with 195 kg.
The Women’s 53 kg competition concluded with intense performances from some of Asia’s finest athletes. India’s podium finish reflects the growing dominance and improving standards of Indian women in international weightlifting competitions.
Officials from the Indian Weightlifting Federation congratulated Gyaneshwari Yadav for her outstanding achievement and expressed confidence in the Indian contingent for the remaining events of the championship.
The tournament is being conducted under international standards and is expected to witness thrilling competitions in the coming days as elite weightlifters compete for continental glory.
