Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is headed for a landslide victory. The party supremo and Bengal chief minister also took to Twitter to express her gratitude of the people of her state for the results.

As per latest updates, the TMC has won a total of 994 of 2,171 seats of 108 civic bodies. The party is also currently leading at 456 constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has so far bagged 46 seats, while the Congress party and CPI(M) won 32 and 20 seats, respectively.

The polls were held on February 27 with nearly 95 lakh people exercising their franchise to decide the fate of more than 8,000 candidates.

The ruling Trinamool Congress previously emerged victorious in all five civic bodies in recent elections, including the high-profile Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).

The West Bengal civic polls were marked by sporadic incidents, ranging from ransacking of a polling booth to attacks on policemen.
