On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri in Sultanpur district (November 16, 2021). The inauguration is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

According to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office, after the inauguration, the prime minister will witness an airshow by the Indian Air Force on the 3.2 km long airstrip built on the Expressway in Sultanpur district to allow Indian Air Force fighter planes to land and take off in the event of an emergency.

The Purvanchal Expressway stretches for 341 kilometres, beginning in village Chaudsarai, district Lucknow, on the Lucknow-Sultanpur road (NH-731) and ending in hamlet Hydaria, 18 kilometres east of the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border.

The Purvanchal Expressway is a 6-lane highway that can be upgraded to an 8-lane highway in the future. The expressway was built at a cost of almost Rs 22,500 crore, according to the press statement. It is expected to help the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur, flourish economically.
