On Monday, January 10, 2022, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will host a virtual meeting with the health ministers of five states and a union territory to discuss the COVID-19 issue, which has seen an exponential surge in cases.

The health ministers of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will attend the COVID-19 review meeting, according to a PTI report.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country, ongoing health infrastructure and logistics readiness, the status of the country's vaccination campaign, and the public health implications of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pravin Pawar, Member (Health) NITI Aayog Dr VK Paul, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Home Secretary AK Bhalla, Secretary (MoHFW) and Secretary (Pharmaceuticals) Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary (Biotechnology) Dr Rajesh Gokhale, DG ICMR Dr Balram Bhargava, CEO of National Health Authority RS Sharma, along with other senior officials.

PM Modi's review meeting came after the government reported more than 1.5 lakh new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases of the virus's Omicron form to 3,623. India reported 1,59,632 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to data issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday, bringing the country's daily positive rate to 10.21%.

Maharashtra leads the way with 1,009 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi (513) and Karnataka (513). (441).
