On Friday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha for consideration and passage.

On Monday, the bill was introduced in the Lower House. The Ordinance modifies the 1985 NDPS Act, which governs the production, transportation, and use of narcotic narcotics and psychotropic substances. The Ordinance corrects a prior Amendment's drafting error.

The Act was revised in 2014, changing the clause number of the definition for such illegal conduct. The section on penalties for sponsoring these illegal acts, on the other hand, was not changed and remained to relate to the definition's prior clause number. The punishment section of the Ordinance is amended to include a reference to the new clause number.

Opposition leaders from as many as 20 parties are expected to introduce a resolution against the Bill. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary of the Congress, Saugata Roy of the Trinamool Congress, and Bhartruhari Mahtab of the Biju Janata Dal are among those who oppose the bill.

During Private Members' Business, five members of Congress, including Shashi Tharoor of the Congress and Janardan Singh 'Sigriwal' of the BJP, will introduce resolutions.

On Friday, reports from a number of parliamentary standing committees, including Home Affairs, Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, and Petitions, will be presented in both Houses.
