According to news agency PTI, two terrorist organisations have claimed responsibility for an ambush attack on an Assam Rifles unit in which the commanding officer, his wife and kid, as well as four other people, were dead.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) claimed responsibility for the horrific attack in Manipur's Churachandpur district in a joint statement.

Colonel Viplav Tripathi, commanding commander of the Assam Rifles' Khuga Battalion, and his riflemen NK Nayak, Suman Swargiary, RP Meena, and Shyamal Das were killed in the raid. The bodies of Tripathi's wife and six-year-old boy were also discovered.

At around 10 a.m., terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on the single-lane street before starting fire on the convoy. According to sources, the incident occurred while Tripathi and his team were returning from his forward company post to the battalion headquarters.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh first acknowledged the terror attack on Twitter, saying that the perpetrators would be "brought to justice." Later, he mentioned that he had paid a visit to one of the jawans who had been hospitalised to Shija Hospital in Imphal, Manipur's capital, after suffering significant injuries in the attack.

Meanwhile, official sources told ANI that security on the Myanmar border has been tightened up, and the region is being closely monitored. This happened after Singh said that paramilitary personnel and commandos had initiated a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Union home minister Amit Shah, and Union defence minister Rajnath Singh were among those who condemned the incident.
