National Doctors' Day is dedicated to all the doctors and healthcare fraternity who have devoted their life in the service of humanity. This year's theme of the Doctor's Day had been 'Save the Saviours'. To mark this occasion, a virtual programme was organized by the Medical Department of both Western & Central Railway jointly, held at Central Railway Headquarters, CSMT, Mumbai.

Alok Kansal – General Manager, Western & Central Railway was the Chief Guest on this occasion. He appreciated this joint initiative and applauded the hardwork & dedication of railway doctors, especially, during these testing times amidst the COVID – 19 pandemic & congratulated them.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, two informative presentations on vital topics – Chest Pain to Heart attack & Fitness in COVID – 19 were presented by senior specialist doctors on this occassion. Speaking on this occasion, GM showered his appreciation for the contributions made by the Medical fraternity of both Western & Central Railway.

He proudly mentioned the untiring efforts by doctors & staff of Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai Central (WR) & Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla (CR) during the last 15 months, fighting the COVID battle from the forefront as CORONA WARRIORS by treating & caring 7000 COVID affected patients. He expressed his concern for them by cautioning them to be careful while dispensing their duties and exhorted to get themselves vaccinated for their safety.

For their well-being, Kansal also suggested them to dedicate some quality time for themselves. Some doctors also showcased their talents in singing, poem recitation and satire. It is noteworthy to mention that under the aegis of GM Kansal, it is for the first time that doctors from both Western as well as Central Railway have come together to celebrate this occasion as one Railway family by breaking the barriers of railway zones.

Kansal appreciated the doctor's empathetic gesture by reciting a meaningful couplet "Ponchh kar ashq apni aankon se, muskarao toh koi baat bane". He also penned & recited a spontaneous couplet on this occasion, admiring the role of doctors - Mareezo ka dekhkar haal, sabka dil kampta hai...Ye doctor ke bas ki hi baat hai, jo hum sabhi ko sambhalta hai".

The event was attended online by Senior Deputy General Manager, CR; Principal Chief Medical Directors of both WR & CR, Medical Directors of Jagjivan Ram Hospital & Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital as well as other doctors, physicians from Headquarters and Divisions of both the Railways.
