Punjab Congress Legislature Party will meet again today in Chandigarh to elect a new leader to replace Capt Amarinder Singh. He resigned yesterday as Chief Minister of Punjab, saying he was humiliated to quit.

Central Congress Observer Ajay Maken, Harish Rawat and Harish Chaudhary will also be present at the meeting. All MLAs and ministers have been asked to remain present in the meeting. In its yesterday's meeting, the Congress legislature party had authorised Party President Sonia Gandhi to decide who will be the next chief minister of Punjab.

Besides Navjot Singh Sidhu, among the names doing the rounds as Amarinder Singh's replacement included former PCC chiefs Sunil Jakhar and Pratap Bajwa and state ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Tript Rajinder Bajwa.

Meanwhile, Capt Amarider has made it clear that he will oppose any move to make Sidhu as Punjab CM. Amarinder Singh described Sidhu as anti-national, dangerous, unstable, incompetent and a security threat to the state and the country. The outgoing Chief Minister lashed at Sidhu for what he called his close alliance with Pakistani leaders.

Capt Amarinder said, the country has seen Sidhu hugging Imran Khan and General Bajwa of Pakistan while our soldiers were being killed at the borders. Amarinder Singh said, the government of Punjab means the security of India.

Assembly elections in Punjab are due early next year. The current term of the state Assembly ends on March 27.
