PM Modi to chair National Conference of Chief Secretaries in New Delhi on concluding day today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the second National Conference of Chief Secretaries in New Delhi today also on its concluded day. 

Yesterday, In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, this is a wonderful forum to exchange views on important policy-related subjects and to strengthen team spirit to take India to newer heights.

The Conference is focused on achieving rapid and sustained economic growth in partnership with the States.

The idea behind the conference is that cooperative federalism, through Central Ministries and Departments working together with States in seamless coordination, is an essential pillar for the development and progress of New India.

With this vision in mind, Mr. Modi conceptualised this conference, which was held for the first time last year in Dharamshala.

More than two hundred people comprising representatives of the Central Government, Chief Secretaries, and other senior officials of States, Union Territories, and domain experts are participating in the conference.

The discussion during the conference will be held on six identified themes. 

These are Thrust on MSMEs, Infrastructure, and Investments, Minimising Compliances, Women's Empowerment, Health and Nutrition, and Skill Development.

AIR correspondent reports that this is not an isolated example of when Prime Minister Modi has tried to leverage cooperative federalism to usher in efficiency and synergy to respond to many of India’s intractable challenges.

In the last eight years, he has worked to make the process of policy-making and implementation more collaborative and consultative, thus making India more federally governed.
