Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government is making strides toward establishing India as frontrunner in the realm of 6G technology.

Inaugurating the 7th Edition of the Indian Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi today, Mr Modi said, the government initiated the effort to bring 5G connectivity to every citizen.

He said, four lakh 5G based stations have been set up since the launch of 5G technology in the country. Mr Modi added that these stations have covered 97 percent of the cities and more than 80 percent population. He said, India has reached 43rd position in mobile broadband speed from previous rank of 118.

The Prime Minister said, the government is working to ensure that the benefits of development reach every class and region. He said, the government believes in the power of democratisation in every sector. Mr Modi said, technology is the catalyst that expedites the transition from a developing nation to a developed one.

He said, India's semiconductor mission is progressing with the aim of fulfilling not just its domestic demands but also the global requirements. Prime Minister said, recently, Google has announced the manufacturing of its Pixel phone in India. Mr Modi underscored that the world is using Made in India mobile phones now.

Speaking on the occasion, Electronic and IT Minister Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that in the last ten years, Prime Minister Modi has transformed the telecom sector.

He said, today it is a sunrise sector free from scams and litigation. Mr Vaishnaw said, India's telecom industry is known for its fastest 5G rollout and affordable data.

The Minister said, Prime Minister has a clear focus on the telecom sector because it is the gateway of Digital India. He said, mobile phones worth more than 90 thousand crore rupees were exported last year.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Akash Ambani hailed the Prime Minister’s commitment to improving the lives of younger generation by inculcating the use of the latest technologies.

He highlighted that the Prime Minister is an inspiration for millions of youngsters in the country in making the Digital India programme inclusive, innovative, and sustainable.

Bharti Enterprises Chairman, Sunil Bharti Mittal recalled the vision given by the Prime Minister in the form of Digital India which led to the development of digital infrastructure at a feverish pace. He underlined the transformation brought about by PM's JAM trinity vision and how the world has taken note of India’s digital transformation. He said the Digital Public Infrastructure of India is the envy of many countries.

Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla mentioned that India is actively engaging with the development of standards for futuristic technologies in areas like 6G under the guidance of the Prime Minister.

During the programme, Prime Minister awarded 100 5G Use Case Labs to educational institutions across the country. These labs are being developed under the 100 5G labs initiative.

The 5G labs initiative is an endeavour to realise the opportunities associated with 5G technology by encouraging the development of 5G applications that cater both to India’s unique needs as well as the global demands. It will foster innovation across various socio-economic sectors like education, agriculture, health, power, and transportation. The initiative is also a pivotal step for building a 6G-ready academic and start-up ecosystem in the country.
