Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a landmark visit to Namibia, marking his first trip to the country and only the third-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister. This historic visit comes nearly 30 years after the last high-level engagement of this kind.
PM Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome at Hosea Kutako International Airport, including a Guard of Honour. Upon his arrival at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek, he was greeted enthusiastically by members of the Indian diaspora, who welcomed him with patriotic slogans and cheers.
Bilateral Talks and Key Agreements
At 11:00 AM local time (2:30 PM IST), delegation-level talks will be held at the State House. The discussions are expected to result in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements will focus on strengthening cooperation in critical sectors such as:
- Energy security
- Healthcare
- Pharmaceuticals
Tribute and Civilian Honour
As part of his visit, the Prime Minister will pay tribute to Namibia’s Founding Father and first President, the late Dr. Sam Nujoma.
In a special gesture of friendship, Namibia will confer its highest civilian honour on PM Modi, recognizing his contributions to enhancing bilateral relations and fostering mutual respect between the two nations.
Address at Namibian Parliament
Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to address the Parliament of Namibia, marking a significant diplomatic moment and underscoring India’s commitment to deepening democratic and developmental partnerships in Africa.
