A major breakthrough has been made in the Delhi car blast case that occurred near the Red Fort on November 10. Police and forensic teams have confirmed that the Hyundai i20 involved in the explosion contained explosives and that the person inside the car was terrorist Dr. Umar Nabi alias Umar Mohammad. DNA samples recovered from the car debris have been matched 100% with his family, confirming his identity. It is now clear that Umar Nabi himself was behind the blast that claimed the lives of 12 innocent people and left 20 others injured.
Blast Triggered in Panic Over Police Action?
According to the investigation, the terrorist had purchased the car just 11 days before the explosion. He was reportedly a member of the white-collar terror module operating out of Faridabad. Police suspect that ongoing operations by security agencies in Faridabad and Kashmir made Umar anxious, leading him to carry out the blast in haste. Authorities also suspect that his family was aware of his radicalization but failed to inform security agencies.
Government Confirms It Was a Terror Attack
Following the incident, a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held on Wednesday in Delhi. After reviewing the situation, the government officially classified the Delhi car blast as a terrorist attack. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case and is conducting a comprehensive probe.
